Wheat Environment

  • Wheat is one of the most significant crops in Tajikistan - occupies about 40% of the toal arable land.
  • Wheat is the most important single source of calories in Tajikistan - provides over 50% of the daily calory income
  • Important wheat producing regions include:  
      • Khatlon, which stands for 55 - 60% of the country total production
      • Sogd (Sughd) - about 20% of the wheat production
      • Central Tajikistan - about 18 %
      • Grono-Badakhshan -about 3-4 % 
  • Wheat is grown in valley areas both under irrigation and in rainfed conditions.
