Wheat Environment

Australia produces about 24 million tonnes of wheat per year, accounting for 3.5 per cent of annual global production. Winter wheat is grown in the southern regions of the country near the coast. The state of Western Australia produces the most wheat in Australia, accounting for 38 percent of the nations total wheat production. The next largest wheat producing state in Australia is New South Wales, which produces 25 percent of Australia’s total wheat. In Australia, wheat is sown between the end of April and July and grows through the winter months. The Wheat harvest is starting in central Queensland during August and progresses down the east coast to Victoria, finishing during January.
